Hikuri Neira

Dear Supporters,

It´s with great expectation and happy tidings that I write you today. The past few weeks have seen two successful charity missions to the Sierra Huichol. Firstly, we would like to congratulate the members of Wixabikla for completing their mission to deliver quantities of working bicycles to young indigenous students for their commutes. Secondly I want to thank the art collective for their excellent work in the municipality of San Andres Cohamiataand congratulate them on organizing deliveries of food, toys, blankets, clothing and anti-scorpion bite injections to the Hikuri Neira ceremony.

Last but not least I am mailing all of you to describe the dire situation for water that I had a chance to reconnoiter this last week. One whole community of reasonable size, around 300 families, is barely getting enough water to drink from the ground level wells they are dependent on for all needs, and certainly this is not enough for everyone to wash themselves and their clothing often enough. There at the community there was a development project with a windmill and storage tank that has gone awry and we wish to repair this as well as add solar pumps and storage to other more rural communities who have no infrastructure whatsoever. The government has abandoned the community in these issues and as indigenous allies we are the front line in the fight for human rights in this part of the world.

Our project has been approved graciously by the elders and spiritual leaders in Cohamiata and with your support it is fully realizable.

Thank you!

Gracias!
